My adventure began the 10th of August when I landed in Budapest, every person on my flight was going to be at the festival, and I do really understand why. It has been amazing.
The festival generally lasts 7 days, plus one day of after party, the tickets are available really earlier, if I am correct we bought them in March and in April the 5-days option was sold out. The festival price is in the average of all the main music festival. Buying the ticket, you have the possibility to see many different bands, to listen an absolutely wide range of music, to meet people from all the world, to have access to cinemas, games, circus, exhibition, and to dance, dance and once you are tired, dance again.
We got the tickets before that all the bands were out and unfortunately I missed a singer that I really liked, but the risk to miss the 5-days pass was really high. Besides, the price increase with the time, sooner you buy the tickets, cheaper they are.
Europe offers a lot of different kind of music festival, Sziget is one of the biggest, and believe me, is HUGE. I don’t think I have ever walked that much in my life, maybe it was all the dancing or the jumping or the screaming, but I really needed a holiday after the holiday.

As I said before, the festival offers a big selection of music genre, including many commercial bands and really famous singers, reason why we decided to go there, our crew is formed by people with really different music taste. I still have no idea how we get along. We are the living proof that the music range there is absolutely wide. I do love electronic music, every kind of it, even though in my first night in Sziget I was dancing Manu Chao in front of the main stage…and I had fun! I still can’t believe it.
The best? My last night. It was epic. I am actually lucky, I got Hardwell in the main stage. Yeah, I know what you are thinking “just commercial music” but try to figure the commercial remixed music in a massive, huge, stage, then add a really good sound and mix everything with fireworks, flames and lights. SO.MUCH.FUN.
Beside, Budapest is party city. It offers pubs, clubs and the biggest thermal bath in Europe. To add more about the party-party part, the thermal bath becomes a club during Saturday night!
Few tips for the festival?
⦁ Stay in a house / hostels / wherever, do not camp. The basic camping is something hardcore. We spent 9 euro for night in the city centre. Cons? We had to get the tube and a train to go at the festival, pros we had a real toilet and a real showers. Don’t underestimate it.
⦁ Bring your food and your water. As everyone can easily imagine, food and water are more expensive than in the city centre.
⦁ Bring a hoodie/cardigan/whatever, during the day you will roost, during the night you freeze.
⦁ Buy the city pass. With a city pass you have all the transport free and a free entrance for one of the thermal bath. The price for the bath is almost the same of the city pass.
⦁ Don’t dress black (as I always do!) there is a lot of dust and during the day is hot.
⦁ Bring cash and change it, the withdraw rate is not convenient.
⦁ Don’t be shy! Meeting people from everyone is one of the best part of the party.
⦁ Enjoy, dance, scream, be free as much as they claim you can be : D

I loved the place. I’d go back to do everything again and again if I could. Even if I didn’t know the music, or the band, it was still worthy.
Where to stay if you are not camping? We decided to go in a really cheap hostel. Always keep in mind the airb&b option, and remember to book as soon as you decide to go there. I am pretty sure that sooner you book, the best you can get. We didn’t have a great experience in our hostel, mind the security and check the feedback when you do the booking. I strongly recommend to don’t book any hostels which the score is lower than 9.
So, I guess you are considering if going or not, well, go. Have fun, jump, scream, dance, drink and laugh. It won’t be boring. I wish for everyone to have at least half of the fun that I had.
God, the summer is not over yet, and I already miss it XD
Please, share your opinion and your experience, it might be useful for someone else : )
See you soon.
